NASKAH 1COOLING DIESEL ENGINE
The cylinder of a diesel engine has a double wall, the inner wall is called the cylinder liner and the outer wall is known as the jacket. The space between is used for the circulation of cooling water, to prevent the metal from over heating. It is an annular space, which means that it has the shape of a ring in horizontal cross-section of the cylinder. The cylinder is covered at the top by the cylinder head, having the shape of a round box. The cylinder head contains the valve hausings, which can easily be cooled, as the cylinder head is double-walled. Cooling is necessary because the working temperatures of gagses inside the cylinder are very high. Fresh water is the commonest cooling medium that is used. The piston needs cooling too. It is hollow; telescope pipes lead the water to and from the piston. In many heavy-fuel-oil engines, however, oil is used to cool the piston. The same coolant can be used repeatedly, being circulated by a pump from a sump through the engine, the through the tubes of heat exchanger/cooler and back to the sump. The outside walls of the tubes in the cooler are cooled by means of seawater, so that at least two pumps are needed.
I.Answer the following in simple English :
1.How is the cylinder of the diesel engine constructed?
2.Why is diesel engine cooling considered necessary?
3.What does it mean with annular space?
4.Where are the valve-housing fitted?
5.What other medium is used for cooling purpose?
6.What method is used for piston cooling?
7.How the piston cooling works?
8.Why is Oil medium coolant can be used repeatedly?
9.What medium is used to cool outside walls of the cooler’s tubers?
10.Two kinds of pumps are needed. Name the pump.
Jawab :
1.How is the cylinder of the diesel engine constructed?
The cylinder of diesel engine has double wall, the inner wall is called cylinder liner & the outer wall is known as the jacket.
2.Why is diesel engine cooling considered necessary?
The diesel engine cooling considers to prevent from over heating.
3.What does it mean with annular space?
The annular space is mean that it has the shape of a ring in horizontal cross section of the cylinder.
4.Where are the valve-housing fitted?
The valve house is fitted in the cylinder head.
5.What other medium is used for cooling purpose?
The other medium used for cooling is fresh water
6.What method is used for piston cooling?
The method which used for piston cooling is telescope pipes lead the water to and from the piston.
7.How the piston cooling works?
The piston cooling works are the coolant can be used repeatedly, being circulated by a pump from a sump through the engine , through the tubes of heat exchanger cooler & back to the sump.
8.Why is Oil medium coolant can be used repeatedly?
Oil medium which coolant can be used repeatedly, because the coolant being cooled in cooler & circulated by a pump.
9.What medium is used to cool outside walls of the cooler’s tubers?
The medium which can be used to cooled the out side wall of the cooler is sea water
10.Two kinds of pumps are needed. Name the pump.
The two kind of pump which needed are: Fresh Water Circulating Pump & Sea Water Cooling Pump.
II.Name 3 reasons which would cause cylinder liner or cylinder head to crack
Jawab :
The 3 reasons which would cause cylinder liner or cyl head crack are:
1.Over heating
2.The engine work in high vibration.
3.The poor quality of the materials being used for the engine.
III.How would you correct injection valve timing, if injection started late and ended early?
To correct the injection valve timing if it’s to late or early:
a.Turn the piston to the injection timing position (usually indicated on the fly wheel 20 degree to 15 degree before TDC.
b.Adjust the adjusting bolt which located below of the FO high pressure pump until the mark for injection is aligned.
